Covers
Where this shows up in our reports
- 2016 Kia Sorento: The 2.4 Theta II: oil consumption, then a knock, then a seizure
- 2017 Kia Sorento: What the knock-sensor campaign actually does — and where the coverage stops — Kia's Product Improvement Campaign PI1802 — a Product Improvement Campaign is a free fix Kia offers outside the safety-recall system — installs the Knock Sensor Detection System, or KSDS, on this car.
- 2018 Kia Sorento: The knock-sensor campaign covers this car; the engine warranty does not — Kia's Product Improvement Campaign PI1802 — a Product Improvement Campaign is a free fix Kia offers outside the recall system — installs the Knock Sensor Detection System on this exact model year.
- 2020 Kia Sorento: The knock-sensor campaign that does not exist for this year — PI1802 covers 2015 model-year cars with the 2.4 and "all 2016-2018 MY Sorento vehicles equipped with 2.4L Gasoline Direct Injection ('GDI') and 2.0L Turbocharged GDI ('T-GDI') engines".
- 2016 Kia Sportage: Theta II engine: oil consumption, then a knock, then a seizure — Federal filings on this year read almost identically: "the engine knocks, took it to the auto mechanic and needs a new engine"; "the engine completely seized up"; "started knocking, the oil light came on and white smoke was coming from [the hood]"; "my engine locked up." Kia's answer is a free Product Improvement Campaign, PI1802, which installs KSDS — the Knock Sensor Detection System, software that listens for the vibration of early bearing wear.
- 2017 Kia Sportage: The engine file: rod bearings, oil starvation, seizure, denied claims — Kia's countermeasure is Product Improvement Campaign PI1802, free knock-sensor software covering all 2014 to 2018 Sportages with the 2.4 GDI and 2.0 turbo.
- 2018 Kia Sportage: Where oil consumption ends: P1326, limp mode, and a new engine — Kia's free Product Improvement Campaign PI1802 covers all 2014 to 2018 Sportages with those engines and installs KSDS, the Knock Sensor Detection System, which listens for the vibration of early bearing wear.
- 2021 Kia Sportage: No knock-sensor campaign covers a 2021
- 2022 Kia Sportage: Nothing free covers this engine — no campaign, no extension
