Reliability report · 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee · Updated July 2026

The redesigned two-row WL arrives with a launch-year recall list and a new air-suspension-and-electronics profile — nearly all free fixes, so the recall record is the whole game.

The 2022 is the ground-up redesign of the two-row Grand Cherokee (the WL platform), and like most first-year cars it came with a long recall list rather than a big out-of-pocket pattern. The safety items to verify are real: an upper control-arm ball joint that can separate and drop a wheel (24V-132), rear coil springs that can detach (23V-413, replaced by 26V-051), a steering-column shaft that can disconnect (23V-352), and a run of rearview-camera and side-airbag recalls. Every one is free.

This year also introduces the 4xe plug-in hybrid, whose complaints are filed under the mainstream Grand Cherokee this year. The 4xe's high-voltage battery later drew a serious fire recall (25V-741) telling owners to park outside and not charge until fixed, and its hybrid controller drew a power-loss recall (25V-576). Day to day, the WL's noise is electronics — the Uconnect 5 screen — and the Quadra-Lift air suspension throwing 'Service Air Suspension' messages. Buy the one with a clean, complete recall record.

Chirping

What that means: 355 federal complaints and eleven recalls. 2022 is the first year of the redesigned two-row fifth-generation (WL) Grand Cherokee, and it launched with a redesign-era stack of recalls — steering, suspension, airbags, and a run of rearview-camera fixes — plus a new 4xe plug-in hybrid whose high-voltage battery later drew a fire recall. Almost everything is a free remedy.

Suspension and steering recalls — the launch-year safety cluster

major

The WL launched with several chassis recalls worth confirming. An upper control-arm ball joint can separate from the steering knuckle and let the wheel fall outward, causing a loss of control (24V-132, code 10B). Rear coil springs may have been incorrectly installed and can detach while driving (23V-413, code 64A, later replaced by 26V-051, code 20D). And a steering-column intermediate shaft can disconnect and cause a loss of steering (23V-352, code 58A). All are free inspection/repairs — but on a used WL they're only worth anything if they were done. Verify each by VIN.

4xe plug-in hybrid — high-voltage battery fire recallmajor

  • 2.0L turbo 4xe PHEV

The 2022 introduces the 4xe plug-in hybrid (a PHEV — a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle). Its high-voltage battery can fail internally and cause a fire while parked or driving; the recall (25V-741, code 68C) tells owners to park outside, away from structures, and not to charge until the fix — a software update and, if needed, a battery replacement. Separately, a hybrid-control-processor software error can cause a loss of drive power (25V-576, code 73C). On any 2022 4xe, confirm both are resolved; the battery recall is the one with real teeth.

Rearview-camera and airbag recalls — a repeated chainmoderate

The WL drew several rearview-camera display recalls (a distraction and federal rear-visibility non-compliance): the Central Vision Park Assist software (23V-577), a coaxial-cable connection (24V-289), the radio software (24V-436), and a center-stack display transistor that can overheat (25V-083). Some superseded or joined earlier ones, so a car 'fixed' once may need the newer remedy. There are also front side-airbag connector recalls (24V-897 and 26V-328). Confirm the latest camera and airbag remedies were applied.

Camera and airbag recalls

Uconnect 5 screen and Quadra-Lift air suspensionmoderate

The WL's everyday complaints are electronic. The Uconnect 5 radio screen can go blank, lock up, or reboot — Chrysler documents this in a service bulletin, separate from the camera recalls. And the optional Quadra-Lift air suspension can throw a 'Service Air Suspension' message, with ride-height sensor faults especially in cold weather; Chrysler ran a part-order-restriction program on the air-suspension control module, a sign parts were constrained. Test the screen across menus and cycle the air suspension through its height settings on the drive.

Windshield defrost/defog software recall — 24V-111minor

A hybrid-control-processor software error can make the windshield defrosting and defogging system inoperative — a visibility (FMVSS 103) non-compliance — on 2022-2024 Grand Cherokee (and 2021-2024 Wrangler). The fix (24V-111, code 04B) is a free software update. Quick to do, easy to overlook; confirm it by VIN.
