Reliability report · 2022 Ford Edge · Updated July 2026

A quiet late-run year — screens, a small eight-speed tail, and a free engine recall for ST and Sport.

The 2022 Edge is another quiet late-generation year: 120 federal complaints, and the same shape as 2021. The most common issue is the SYNC4 touchscreen going blank or freezing — a software fault Ford addresses with updates, not module swaps. The eight-speed transmission's low-speed shudder and occasional torque-converter or transmission failures still show up, but in small numbers; one owner reports failure around 81,000 miles with harsh jerking at 15-20 mph.

As on 2021, the recall with real consequences is engine-specific: the 2.7L and 3.0L 'Nano' EcoBoost V6s in the Edge ST and Sport can break their intake valves and destroy the engine (recall 24V-635), with a free cycle-test and, if needed, a free engine replacement under a 10-year program. That recall doesn't touch four-cylinder or base V6 cars. A 2022 with the camera and screen software current, and — on ST/Sport — the intake-valve test done, is a strong used buy.

Canary status

Chirping

What that means: 120 federal complaints — a fraction of the early years. The pattern mirrors 2021: SYNC4 screen blackouts, a small residue of eight-speed shudder and torque-converter failures, and the 2.7L/3.0L intake-valve recall that covers ST and Sport engines for free.

2.7L / 3.0L intake-valve recall — ST and Sport only

major
  • 2.7L EcoBoost V6

The 2022's most serious item, like the 2021's, applies only to the twin-turbo 'Nano' EcoBoost V6s — the 2.7L and 3.0L in the Edge ST and Sport. The intake valves can break while driving, destroying the engine and cutting drive power (recall 24V-635, from federal investigation EA23002; Ford 24S55). The remedy is a free dealer cycle-test and, if it fails, a free engine replacement, with a 10-year no-cost coverage program behind it. A mechanic transcript notes these engines can consume oil and foul spark plugs. If you're buying an ST or Sport, verify the cycle-test was done; on a non-Nano 2022 this recall doesn't apply.

This is a 2.7L EcoBoost V6 problem. The 2.0L EcoBoost I4 doesn’t share it.

SYNC4 touchscreen blackoutmoderate

The most common 2022 complaint is the SYNC4 touchscreen going blank or freezing, sometimes taking the backup camera and climate controls with it. Ford's material treats this as an APIM (the module behind the screen) software issue and says replacing the module won't fix it — the remedy is software, delivered through the camera recalls below and dealer updates. If the screen misbehaves on the test drive, confirm the latest software rather than paying for hardware.

Rearview-camera recall chainmoderate

The 2022 sits under the same superseding camera recalls as the 2021: a software error blanking or distorting the reversing image (22V-151, Ford 22S14), a re-do for cars fixed incorrectly (25V-160, Ford 25S28), a further APIM software campaign (25V-315, Ford 25S49), and an APIM-overheat campaign (26V-124, Ford 26S09). Because they superseded each other, verify the VIN carries the newest remedy.

Eight-speed shudder and late failures — small but presentmoderate

  • 8-speed automatic (8F35)

The eight-speed's signature shudder at low speed persists on the 2022, along with a handful of torque-converter and transmission failures — one owner reports failure near 81,000 miles with harsh jerking at 15-20 mph, another a 'shift system malfunction' that left the car unable to move. Volumes are low, but the mechanism is the same one that dominated 2019-2020. Drive it for a low-speed shudder and get a transmission scan on higher-mileage cars.
