2018 is the newest year covered by recall 23V-734 (2013–2018 gas RAV4s): wrong-size replacement batteries can shift, short on the hold-down bracket, and cause a fire. The 6-speed itself is otherwise one of the most proven boxes Toyota made this decade; mechanics explicitly prefer it to the 8-speed that replaced it.

The 2018 Hybrid's own complaint file is tiny (15 filings) and scattered — a bucking/jerking episode on grades, a coolant-loss case, an aux-battery failure. Nothing forms a pattern. The real hybrid to-dos are the ~$20 HV battery fan filter (clogging is the top avoidable cause of pack failure) and inverter-coolant service. The 8yr/100k pack warranty is in its final stretch on a 2018 — check the in-service date.
