Reliability report · 2023 Toyota Camry · Updated July 2026

The last and cleanest of this Camry — two one-time recalls to close out, and little else.

The 2023 is the newest, cleanest Camry we cover: complaint volume is at the bottom of the range and there's no meaningful transmission or engine pattern left in the file. What there is comes down to two recalls, both one-time free fixes. One is serious-sounding but simple — a wheel-lug-nut campaign (23V432) that carried a 'do not drive until repaired' advisory because loose nuts can let a wheel come off; on a used car this is almost certainly long since fixed, but confirm it. The other is a rear head-restraint weld repair (24V128).

Beyond those, it's isolated stuff: a backup-camera/infotainment reboot, an occasional hybrid fuel-cap leak, and the same water-pump service tip that spans the 2022–2024 engine. Mechanics consider the four-cylinder drivetrain durable, especially with regular fluid changes. Verify the two recalls are closed and this is a low-risk buy.

Canary status

Calm

What that means: The final year of the eighth generation in our range and one of the lowest-complaint: 58 federal filings, with the content driven by two straightforward recalls — a wheel-lug-nut 'do not drive' campaign and a rear-head-restraint weld fix — rather than by any mechanical pattern. The transmission cluster that defined 2018 has effectively cleared.

Wheel lug nuts — 'do not drive' recall (23V432)

major

The headline recall for the year, and the scariest on paper: on certain 2023 Camry and Camry Hybrid cars the wheel lug nuts may be loose, which can let a wheel detach. Toyota issued a 'do not drive until repaired' advisory and the dealer fix — inspect, tighten, and replace any damaged parts — is free. On a used 2023 this was almost certainly resolved years ago, but it's a must-verify: confirm by VIN that 23V432 shows completed.

Rear head-restraint welds — recall (24V128)moderate

Some 2023–2024 Camry and Camry Hybrid cars have second-row center and right-side head-restraint brackets that were insufficiently welded, which can keep them from restraining an occupant properly in a crash. The remedy — replacing the rear seat-back frame sub-assembly — is free. Another straightforward VIN check; confirm 24V128 is closed.

Infotainment and isolated electrical itemsminor

At this volume the mechanical file is quiet and the remaining complaints are scattered: a backup camera tied to the infotainment system that reboots while driving, an occasional hybrid fuel-cap leak (fuel odor, a stain near the filler), and general interior rattles that hybrid owners mention. None is a pattern; check that the camera and screen behave normally on the test drive.

Water-pump service tip (2022–2024 engine)minor

A service tip covers a coolant/water-pump leak on the 2022–2024 A25A engine — a coolant-pump code or a visible weep near the pump. It's a low-frequency item rather than a failure pattern; a pre-purchase inspection that checks for coolant seepage covers it, and the four-cylinder drivetrain is otherwise considered durable, especially with regular transmission-fluid service.
