A small complaint file with one very loud pattern — fuel pumps failing under 50,000 miles and stalling the car in traffic.

The failure above does not always stop at the pump. One owner at 41,000 miles was told the high-pressure fuel pump had allowed fuel to leak into the engine oil, which in turn damaged the catalytic converter and an oxygen sensor — three components on one repair bill. Another owner's car went through a fuel pump replacement, then a fuel injector, then a third injector, with the failure returning each time. A separate filing describes fuel spraying into the engine compartment when the pump let go. Fuel diluting the oil is the mechanism to understand here: it thins the lubricant protecting everything else in the engine, which is why this is rated alongside the pump itself rather than as a footnote to it. If the car has had a pump replaced, ask what else was replaced with it and whether the oil was changed at the same time.

A single complaint, but severe enough to record because of how early it happened. At 12,564 miles the car became sluggish, then showed "reduced engine power". The dealer's findings, quoted by the owner: the number four intake rocker had fallen off and was lying on the cylinder head, with excessive debris and metal material around it; the number two intake rocker was worn sideways; the intake camshaft was heavily damaged; and the oil filter was full of metal. The engine, the turbocharger and the infotainment system were all replaced. One report is not a pattern and it should not be read as one, but it is worth knowing that a car this new produced a failure this comprehensive. It also reinforces the general advice for this year: get a pre-purchase scan and check the oil for metal, because the early warning signs here were dismissed as sluggishness.

A second route to the same "engine power reduced" message, and one that is easy to confuse with the fuel pump. GM's diagnostic bulletins 11008980 and 11032946, covering 2023 onwards, describe reduced power with fault codes P0237 and P0299 caused by a damaged charge air inlet pipe connection at the turbocharger — the pipe carrying compressed air into the engine. A follow-on Service Update for the 2024 build replaces a charge air cooler outlet tube assembled incorrectly. Because both this and the fuel pump present identically from the driver's seat, the fault codes are what separate them: P0237 and P0299 point at the air side, P228C and P0089 at the fuel side. Any reduced-power history should be scanned rather than guessed at.

A 2023-specific recall, and one that matters if children ride in the front. On cars fitted with ventilated front passenger seats, the Occupant Classification System — the sensor set that works out who is in the seat and decides whether the passenger airbag should arm — may fail to switch the airbag off when it detects a small child or a child restraint. A passenger airbag that fires with a child in front of it increases the risk of injury rather than reducing it. Dealers replace the passenger presence system free of charge, and letters went out in January 2023. Check the passenger airbag status light behaves correctly with weight on the seat, and confirm the recall was completed.

Two smaller electrical complaints round out the year. The centre screen goes black or flashes — one owner reports the right half flashing bright white while driving, another simply "the black screen issue" — which a mechanic source attributes to software and an update rather than a hardware fault, worth knowing before paying for a new display. Separately, a 2023 owner reports being sold the car with the side blind zone alert missing because of the semiconductor shortage, promised a retrofit, and still waiting more than a year later. GM's Customer Satisfaction Program for that feature was written against 2022 builds. Test the blind-spot alert and the screen properly on a long test drive rather than a short one.
